The Chickadee
There are five varieties of Chickadee found in North America. They are the Mountain Chickadee, the Black-capped Chickadee, the Boreal chickadee, the Chestnut-backed Chickadee, and the Mexican Chickadee. The Chickadee species is very similar to the Blue Tit and the Great Tit which can be found throughout Europe, Asia, and North West Africa.
The Mountain Chickadee
The Mountain Chickadee can be found from North British Columbia Canada to as far south as South California, South Arizona, Southwest Texas, and Colorado. The Mountain Chickadee is a common bird often found in coniferous forests. Like other chickadees the Mountain Chickadee has a black crown and a black throat, but what makes the Mountain Chickadee distinctive is a white eyebrow line. These chickadee’s are mostly gray with pale underparts. Mountain Chickadee’s are frequently seen in a group of birds and often are hanging upside down
The Black-capped Chickadee is a small and active bird that is frequently seen at bird feeders. It is slightly smaller than the mountain chickadee and can be found from Alaska east to Newfoundland and as far south as Northern California, North Oklahoma, and North New Jersey.
Black-capped Chickadees can be found in forests or parks and residential areas. They are quite tame and inquisitive, and more readily seen than the Mountain Chickadee. The Black-capped Chickadee has a black paper and And large white cheeks and gray under parts. Its song-call is chick-a-dee-dee-dee
The Boreal Chickadee
The Boreal ChickadeeĀ is found in the northern coniferous forests often in sub arctic wants they are frequently found in boreal spruce forests. Boreal Chickadee’s are found in Alaska and East across Canada to Newfoundland, they can be found as far south as the Northern United States.The Boreal Chickadee is brown with a dark cap roof besides, a black pit, and a dirty white breast and belly it has small whitish cheek patches.
The Chestnut-backed Chickadee
This bird, the smallest of the chickadee varieties, is about 4 3/4 inches. The Chestnut-backed Chickadee isĀ found along the coast of the Pacific Ocean from South Alaska to Central California. The usual habitat of the Chestnut-backed Chickadee is the western coniferous forests, residential areas, and parks. They often are found in pairs or small groups beside streams with broadleaf trees. The adults have the typical Chickadee look but differ by a dusky brown crown which is bordered with a black line that goes through the eye. It’s back and sides are a bright rusty colour
The Mexican Chickadee
The Mexican Chickadee is the only Chickadee found in coniferous forests in South East Arizona
and Southwest New Mexico. The Mexican Chickadee has gray flanks and a black throat patch extending onto the breast.
